Media response to the scan of Götz von Berlichingen's 'Iron Hand'
This innovative project, which involved 3D scanning Götz von Berlichingen's 'iron hand' at Jagsthausen Castle, demonstrates the value of interdisciplinary collaboration.

The famous 'Iron Hand' of Götz von Berlichingen, which is around 500 years old, is owned by the von Berlichingen family and is kept at Jagsthausen Castle. It is displayed in a small museum there and is open to interested members of the public. The History Department has launched a new initiative in collaboration with students, a radiologist from the Bethanien Clinic, a scientist from the Faculty of Medicine, a watchmaker and other scientists, as well as the HCCH. This initiative aims to re-examine the 'Iron Hand' from a scientific perspective, conduct a comprehensive investigation and capture it in 3D for presentation in a small exhibition. The 3D recording was made possible in part thanks to the research infrastructure acquired by the flagship initiative 'Transforming Cultural Heritage'. The regional press showed a great deal of interest and reported extensively on the project.
